Yachting in Miami

"Enjoying Life's Pleasures"

When Dubai started to build its own beach islands, developers bubbled like schoolchildren. Miamians were way ahead of that trend. Built back in 1926, Watson Island has awaited major development for over eighty years. A number of plans have sought to utilize the large space and killer Biscayne Bay location; they met with little success. That should change with Flagstone Group’s $640 million Island Gardens Yachting Resort project.
Combining yachts, affluent international travelers, shopping, residences, high-end restaurants, a stunning new hotel, and a wealth of other allures, Island Gardens is Miami’s next massive marquee property expansion.

Developers intend to unveil as many as sixty shops spread out over 200 000 square feet, all catering to white-collar conspicuous consumers. Promising a glut of boutiques, with many a Euro-centric shop amongst them, big names should follow. Where there are no limit credit cards, there are posh restaurants. The Gardens plan eighteen restaurants and cafes, many mining the sea, including an in-the-works fish market housed in an allegedly stunning structure.

Optimistically, initial construction on Island Gardens is slated to cease in autumn, 2011, with Shangri-La arriving the following year.

“Nothing beats a sunny day out on a boat with good friends and great music – it’s what so many of us love about summer,” said Carl Blackwell, vice president for Discover Boating.

What’s yours? Would love to hear!

I came across this song called I’M ON A BOAT and all I could do was laugh. I hope the lyrics dont insult you. Igoogled boating music and this one was #5 and had 47 MILLION views so they must doing something right….

I know one thing’s for sure. Can’t go wrong with some Bob Marley or Jimmy Buffet.

We stopped at The Water Club before sundown and to our surprise the  restaurant has a pool and a convenient 500 feet of docking your boat  or yacht!  The menu offers a broad selection of American classics  including an array of fresh seafood, salads, sandwiches and classic  favorites such as steaks, burgers, ribs, and a full raw bar. Here is  their website.

This place is located on the corner of 135 street where the bridge  connects you from Collins Ave (off of Sunny Isles). There are several  restaurants along this strip, Flamma Brazilian Steakhouse and the  picture below shows the rest.

Granted. The most popular time in Miami to go boating is always Memorial Day and Columbus Day Weekend. The most popular destination around this time is Key West!

One of the BEST getaways in Miami is Bimini…….

Visitors today tend to follow the same routine with a few twists such as the extraordinary chance to interact with wild Atlantic spotted dolphins that gather north of the island, casting flies for bonefish on the flats of The Bahamas Bank, kayaking to the legendary “Fountain of Youth” (a natural spring amid the mangrove mud that pumps lithium and sulfur) and scuba diving on wrecks, reefs, “off the wall” or atop the mysterious Bimini Road that some believe is remnants of a man-made causeway perhaps built by Atlantis’ own civil engineers.

Bimini Island – which is actually two small islands, North Bimini Island and South Bimini Island, connected by a shallow flat – has a fascinating history. As the closest Bahamian island to the U.S., Bimini served as a convenient offshore speakeasy and liquor store during prohibition. Rum runners stored their hooch both ashore and on a concrete Liberty ship called the Sapona that still rests where it grounded during a hurricane – it’s one of the Caribbean’s very best shallow-water wreck sites for snorkelers and divers. Hemingway is of course closely tied to Bimini’s history, leading the way for generations of fishermen, many of whom pilot their own boats the 50 miles across the Gulf Stream from Florida in order to follow in Papa’s bare footsteps and pit themselves against some of the world’s feistiest game fish — and against each other as they down rum at local watering holes like the famed and funky End of the World Bar.

Beyond the fishing, diving and kayaking, Bimini Island offers both the quiet escape of empty beaches along and the boisterous camaraderie of sportsmen gathering at the marinas after a successful day on the water in the hot sun. Menus at the local restaurants like the Big Game Bar & Grill and The Anchorage are, naturally, heavy on fresh seafood and Bahamian favorites like cracked conch to keep you fueled up for further Bimini adventures.
